Introduction:

Rosemary Foot is Professor of International Relations, and the John Swire Senior Research Fellow at St Antony's College, Oxford University. She has been a Fellow of the College since 1990, and was Senior Tutor, 2003-2005.

Professor Foot studied at the University of Essex (1972), the London School of Oriental and African Studies (1973), and the London School of Economics and Political Science where she completed a Ph.D degree in 1977. She then took up a post as Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Sussex, in the School of English and American Studies, acting as Sub Dean of the School from 1985 and 1987, and moving to Oxford in 1990.

She has been an American Council of Learned Societies/Fulbright Scholar at the East Asian Institute, Columbia University, in 1981-82; a visiting exchange scholar at the People's University in Beijing in 1986; a visiting fellow at the Center for International Studies, Princeton University in 1997; and holder of the visiting Kiriyama Professorship for Pacific Rim Studies at the Center for the Pacific Rim, University of San Francisco in 2002. From January to June 2006 she was a visiting Senior Fellow in the International Security Program at the Belfer Center, Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, and from August to November 2006 the visiting S Rajaratnam Professor of Strategic Studies at the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies, Singapore.
