What Graduate Courses do we offer?
The graduate programmes of the Department include both taught masters courses and research degrees. However, all taught degrees involve a research element, and all research degrees will involve some taught components, including research methods. These two-year (21 month) MPhil degrees include a thesis, examinations in four subject papers and some research methods training. On successful completion of their MPhil degree, candidates may apply to undertake doctoral research for a further one to two years. MSc DegreesThese one-year (12 month) MSc degrees combine a number of research training modules, a subject-based examination, and a short thesis. They are best suited to candidates with a clear idea of their research topic who wish to proceed after the first year to full-time doctoral study over the following two to three years. Research DegreesThese programmes are most appropriate for those who already have an advanced degree in the discipline with research training, and who have a clearly formulated research proposal.
