History of Political Thought Research Network
The History of Political Thought Research Network brings together political theorists, historians, and others, working on the history of political thought broadly construed. Oxford has a long and distinguished tradition of research in this area, including some of the best-known writings of past holders of the Chichele Professorship in Social and Political Theory (for example: G.D.H. Cole on socialism; Isaiah Berlin on the Enlightenment and its enemies; John Plamenatz on Rousseau and Hobbes; Charles Taylor on Hegel; G.A. Cohen on Karl Marx; and Jeremy Waldron on liberalism). The History of Political Thought Research Network seeks to promote work in this area from a wide variety of methodological perspectives; there is no ‘Oxford’ school whose approach we seek to advance at the expense of others. The Network draws its members from academic staff, graduates, departmental visitors, and others, both in the DPIR and in the wider Oxford community. It is affiliated with the Oxford Political Theory Network.
