Cyber Security and the Future of Europe

The Cyber Studies Programme hosted Robert Madelin, Cyber Studies Visiting Fellow based at the department, for a Lunch Seminar on ‘Cybersecurity and the Future of the European Union,’ chaired by Dr Lucas Kello. Robert discussed the current state of affairs regarding cybersecurity within a European context, with a particular focus on legislative and ministerial action as well as the broader question of how European society can prepare for an increasingly digitalised future in the context of persistent cyber threats.

The discussion also covered a broad range of other topics, including the Digital Single Market, European Commission reform, Data4Policy, digital futures, digital humanities, and regional security issues. In conclusion, Robert identified lessons learned from other regions of the world that may apply to Europe.
