Date

The Department is delighted to announce that Dr Meera Sabaratnam will join the team in September 2023 as Associate Professor in International Relations and a Fellow of New College.

Meera is currently Reader in International Relations at SOAS, University of London, and was previously Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Cambridge from 2012 to 2013.

She read PPE at Balliol College, Oxford for her first degree, and received her MSc and PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an Associate of the Imperial War Museum Institute.

Her research interests are in the colonial and postcolonial dimensions of world politics, in both theory and practice. She has worked on questions of IR theory, methodology, international statebuilding, aid relations and war through these lenses.

She is currently the holder of a Leverhulme Research Fellowship for a project entitled ‘Complex Indebtedness: A Postcolonial Theory of the International’, which explores (post)imperial debt formations as the basis for international order.

Meera said: “I am excited to join DPIR and New College, and I look forward to becoming part of the vibrant intellectual community at Oxford.”
