Prof Mitter wins Eastern Eye Award

Rana Mitter, Professor of the History and Politics of Modern China, has won the Eastern Eye Arts, Culture and Theatre Award (ACTA) for Best Presenter 2019, for his work on a BBC Radio 4 documentary.

The documentary, Chinese Characters, explores Chinese history through analysis of key figures, like Mao Zedong, the Empress Cixi, and Confucius.

Nominated alongside Prof Mitter in the Best Presenter category were Nadiya Hussain, presenter and winner of the Great British Bake Off, and Booby Friction, a BBC Radio presenter and DJ.

Eastern Eye’s ACTAs recognise British Asian talent across the creative industries, including literature, film, and television.
