Prof Rana Mitter on Meng Hongwei and China's "strike hard" policy of control

In conversation with BBC Radio 4's World at One, Prof Rana Mitter, Director of the China Centre, and Professor of the History and Politics of Modern China, has analysed the disappearance, detention and investigation of former Interpol chief, Meng Hongwei.

According to Prof Mitter, the emerging pattern of the current Chinese administration demonstrates a move from the “old system” of political control to a “strike hard” policy, where even top figures in Chinese society are not immune from arrest and disappearance.

Prof Mitter’s contribution can be heard in full on BBC Sounds, from 17:12.
