Commencing in October 2021, Max is currently pursuing his MPhil in Politics (European Politics and Society) at the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Oxford. Within his programme he mainly focuses on the EU accession process of the Western Balkans and related questions of political conditionality in this context. This concerns, in particular, the role of the EU and its governing institutions on the development of media freedom in EU candidate and pre-candidate countries of the Western Balkans. Before starting his MPhil degree in Oxford, Max graduated cum laude from the University of Amsterdam with a BA in European Studies (Major EU Law, Minor Conflict Studies). In Amsterdam, he also supported Dr Hanna Muehlenhoff at the Department of European Studies in her research on EU foreign and defence governance as a research intern.
