Government Elections and electoral politics
I study the polarization of the U.S. Congress, particularly through the lens of electoral systems and party primary elections. My first paper exploited variation in party primary election formats across the 50 states to observe their effects on candidate ideology. I now use regression discontinuity design to study how parties (Democrats or Republicans) respond to a narrow loss or win in the previous election.
