Etienne Dignat is currently a second-year PhD candidate in Political Theory at Sciences Po under the supervision of Professor Ariel Colonomos (Research Professor, Sciences Po/Senior Research Fellow, CERI) and Michael Ignatieff (President, Central European University/Senior Fellow, Harvard University). Entitled “Weighing Lives in War: Should the State Rescue at All Costs?”, his research focuses on Ethics of war and discusses the value of human life in the contemporary international context. More specifically, his work takes as a study case a critical experience – the so-called "hostage dilemma", a global phenomenon also combining diplomacy, law and economics – to assess the extent of the State's obligation to rescue its own citizens. Etienne Dignat previously graduated a master’s degree in literature (Ecole Normale Superieure LSH, 2014) and Public Affairs (Sciences Po, 2017).
