We are excited to be hosting Captain Sarah Oakley this week on Defence Reform in the UK. The talk will take place on Tuesday, December 3rd in the Old Library at All Souls College at 8:30pm. As always, there will be a drinks reception prior to the event, starting at 8pm.
Captain Sarah Oakley is the former Commanding Officer of Britannia Royal Naval College Dartmouth and presently with the Defence Reform Team in the Ministry of Defence, having joined the Royal Navy in 1995 after graduating from Oxford. Notably, 2022 marked the first time a passing out parade took place at the College with a female captain at the helm, and indeed all 4 of the fleet’s training bases then were under the command of women.
She has served in operations in the Gulf and the Middle East, tackling terrorism and drugs smuggling, and closer to home, commanded the Fishery Protection Squadron from 2017 to 2019. On shore, she was also a member of the Naval Staff Strategy team supporting the 2020 Integrated Review, and most recently has been involved in work on the AUKUS initiative at the MoD. When not at work, she can be found cheering on the Royal Navy Rugby Union as its Director.
A £2 fee for attendance at the speaker event is kindly requested in cash or bank transfer for all non-members of OSSG. If you need to renew your membership, you can do so on our website or at the door.
We look forward to seeing you next week!
