Area of research:
My research asks how much the past shapes present society. Finding the answers brings my work into the domain of Historical Political Economy.
I explore political legacies of history at three stages:
- living memory, with the case of the 1989 Baltic Way demonstration, exploiting distance to the human chain formed as an instrument for participation;
- collective memory, relying on a survey experiment priming respondents with divergent interpretations of Britain’s slave-trading history (enslaver vs abolitionist);
- institutional legacies, looking at the divisions and connections left by centuries of border changes across Europe.
