Dr. Allen Stroud of the Centre for Peace and Security at Coventry University discusses the way in which science fiction writing methods can (and have been used) in Defence Futures Research, drawing on examples from his work with DSTL on Creative Futures and the Resilience Beyond Observable Capabilities Network (RBOC+).
Allen Stroud is a writer, lecturer and researcher at Coventry University. Stroud completed a Ph. D. at the University of Winchester entitled 'An Investigation and Application of Writing Structures and World Development Techniques in Science Fiction and Fantasy'.
Stroud was Chair of the British Science Fiction Association from 2019 to 2025. He has worked on computer games, roleplaying games, novels, short stories and scripts. He currently runs the Creative Futures research project with the Defence Science Technology Laboratory (DSTL). The Creative Futures: Beyond and Within anthology was published in 2025 by Flame Tree Press.
