Why study geopolitical risk at Oxford?

Participants learn from experts in a department whose research spans international relations, comparative politics and political theory, while engaging with an international cohort of senior professionals.
Who is the programme for?
The programme is aimed at mid- to senior-level executives, policymakers, directors and other decision-makers whose work requires an understanding of geopolitical risk and its implications for organisations.
Recent teaching has included topics such as US politics, China, Iran, artificial intelligence, cyber risk and organisational resilience, reflecting the breadth of issues now relevant to geopolitical decision-making.
What can participants expect?
The programme offers an opportunity to:
- deepen understanding of geopolitical risk and global uncertainty;
- engage directly with Oxford academics and experienced practitioners;
- explore how geopolitical developments affect organisations and strategy; and
- build an international network of senior peers.
The next Geopolitical Risk Executive Education programme takes place 27–29 May 2027 at Rhodes House, Oxford, with places limited to 30 participants.
The Oxford experience

Stay at Rhodes House in the heart of Oxford and enjoy a programme that includes a welcome drinks reception and keynote speech, a three-course formal dinner, and a guided historical tour concluding at one of Oxford’s historic pubs.
The programme fee includes: two nights’ accommodation, all academic sessions and materials, meals and refreshments, programme events and activities, and 12 months’ membership of the Geopolitical Risk Forum.
Geopolitical Risk Forum
Participants receive 12 months’ membership of the Geopolitical Risk Forum following the programme, providing opportunities to continue learning and stay connected with the Oxford geopolitical risk community.
The Forum hosts regular online breakfast seminars with leading academics, offering expert perspectives on geopolitical developments, emerging risks and global affairs. Interactive sessions allow members to ask questions, explore current issues and maintain connections with fellow programme participants.
Geopolitical Risk Scholarship
Revenue from the Geopolitical Risk Executive Education Programme at the University of Oxford is reinvested into the Geopolitical Risk Scholarship, which supports outstanding students in the Department of Politics and International Relations, regardless of their financial background, to pursue advanced research in the field. By taking part, you not only build your own expertise in geopolitical risk and strategic decision-making, but also help support the next generation of scholars.
