Nahjae Nunes

What is your current role and study at DPIR?: 

I am currently completing the MPhil in International Relations, with research focusing on the agency of small states within global economic governance. I also sit on the department's EDI Committee.

 

What do you enjoy most about your research?: 

I deeply enjoy the opportunity my research provides to critically analyse and address structural inequalities in the global economy. The chance to advocate for more equitable international policy solutions makes my work both personally fulfilling and professionally motivating.

 

Can you share with us a little about your experience so far in DPIR?: 

My experience in DPIR has been immensely rewarding. The department provides a highly supportive and intellectually stimulating environment, encouraging rigorous scholarship, critical thinking, and meaningful engagement with contemporary global issues.

 

What are your personal highlights of studying at Oxford?: 

Among my personal highlights have been engaging with my outstanding supervisor (Dr Meera Sabaratnam), participating in vibrant academic communities, and developing research that has tangible real-world applications. The richness of Oxford’s scholarly environment has truly shaped my intellectual growth.

 

How has DPIR supported you in your research?

DPIR has been integral to my research journey, providing invaluable mentorship, resources, and an enriching intellectual community. Faculty and peers alike have consistently encouraged my critical engagement and supported my professional growth.

 

What are you most looking forward to as you embark on your DPhil journey later this year?

As I embark on my DPhil later this year, I am most looking forward to deepening my analysis of global structural inequalities and further contributing to policy-relevant scholarship. The prospect of collaborating closely with leading scholars at DPIR and within the wider Oxford community greatly excites me.

 

What advice would you give to prospective DPIR students considering applying to study a DPhil in Politics?

To prospective students considering a DPhil in IR/Politics, I would emphasize the importance of curiosity, commitment, and clear purpose. DPIR offers unparalleled opportunities for intellectual and professional growth—embrace these fully, build meaningful relationships, and maintain a clear vision of how your research can positively impact the world.
