Meet Yukihisa Fujita

Visiting Research Fellow

Yukihisa Fujita is a distinguished Japanese statesman, humanitarian, and advocate for international peacebuilding.

 

In February 2025, he joined the Department of Politics and International Relations as a Visiting Research Fellow for a two-year term. 


His current research focuses on “Reviving Vanishing Democracy, Particularly in Japan.” In recognition of his lifelong dedication to peace, diplomacy, and public service, Fujita was awarded The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star by the Emperor of Japan.

 

Yukihisa served as Vice Minister of Finance, Member of Parliament, a director of the Association for Aid and Relief (AAR), Secretary General for the Parliamentarian group to support Religion for Peace (RfP) and now is Chairman of the International IC (Initiatives of Change) Association of Japan.

 

Yukihisa told us: 

 

“I feel honoured to be in Oxford meeting so many experts from all over the world at various colleges – also, to learn about history and life in the UK.” He added: “I can work with people from so many different backgrounds.”
