Amia Srinivasan appointed Chichele Professor of Social and Political Theory
The Department of Politics and International Relations is pleased to announce that Professor Amia Srinivasan (University of Oxford) has been appointed as the Chichele Professor of Social and Political Theory.
Prof Srinivasan’s work focuses on political philosophy, epistemology, feminism and metaphilosophy. Currently, she is Associate Professor of Philosophy in the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Oxford, and Tutorial Fellow in Philosophy at St John’s College. Previously, Prof Srinivasan lectured at University College London. She holds a DPhil in Philosophy (Oxon, 2014), as well as a BPhil (Oxon) and BA (Yale) in Philosophy.
Prof Srinivasan is an associate editor of MIND and is a contributing editor of the London Review of Books. At present, she is writing two books: The Contingent World: Genealogy, Epistemology, Politics (forthcoming) and The Right to Sex (Bloomsbury/Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 2020). She frequently writes for public outlets, including The New Yorker, The New York Review of Books and The Nation.
The Chichele Chair in Social and Political Theory is a statutory professorship established in 1944 at the University of Oxford and named in honour of Henry Chichele, the founder of All Souls College and Archbishop of Canterbury. In the past, the post has been held by leading figures in the field: G. D. H. Cole, Sir Isaiah Berlin, John Plamenatz, Charles Taylor, G. A. Cohen, and Jeremy Waldron.
