DPIR’s Dr Meera Sabaratnam wins Teaching Excellence Award

Congratulations to Associate Professor of International Relations Dr Meera Sabaratnam, who has won a Social Sciences Division Teaching Excellence Award.

The awards scheme, which has been running since 2007, aims to recognise individuals' exceptional contribution and dedication to teaching at all career-stages.

Dr Sabaratnam won the prize in the Individual Award for Academic Staff section for outstanding teaching in the Department. This was based on her contributions to pedagogy and curriculum development in the MPhil International Relations core course. Commenting on the award, Meera said:

“I’m very grateful for this award and the recognition that it gives to the importance of excellent teaching practice.

“To me, this means the cultivation of meaningful connections and relationships amongst all participants, the scholarly material and the wider world.”

The awards were presented at a special ceremony held on Thursday, 2 July.

Professor Paul Irwin Crookes, Associate Head of Division for Education, offered the following comment: “The teaching terms at Oxford are incredibly busy and our colleagues dedicate a huge amount of effort to developing innovative and engaging lectures, classes and tutorials.

“The Teaching Excellence Awards are an annual opportunity to pause and recognise this exceptional work. It is wonderful to see the huge variety of approaches from colleagues at all career stages.

“Many congratulations to this year's winners!”
