ESRC Award for Dr Dan Kelemen

Date
Dr Dan Kelemen (University Lecturer in Comparative European Politics and Tutorial Fellow, LincolnCollege) has been awarded a research grant by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) for a project entitled, `Suing for Europe? Adversarial legalism and European Governance?`
Dan’s project will examine the impact of the European Union (EU) on patterns of regulation at the national level in EU member states. The project will explore what impact the EU has had on the ongoing ‘judicialisation’ of regulatory processes in EU member states; the second contribution of this study will be to analyse the causes of this judicialisation. It is hoped that the findings of this research will influence debates among academics and policy-makers concerning new modes of governance in the EU and more general debates concerning growing litigiousness and judicialisation across Europe. Further information about the project will be posted on the research projects section of the Department website when it becomes available.

Dan has been a University Lecturer in Politics and a Tutorial Fellow at Lincoln College since 2003. Some of his recent publications include:

  • The Rules of Federalism: Institutions and Regulatory Politics in the EU and Beyond, Harvard University Press, 2004.
  • Articles in Peer Reviewed Political Science Journals
  • Lex Americana? A Response to Levi Faur, with Eric Sibbitt, International Organization, forthcoming.
  • The Globalization of American Law, with Eric Sibbitt, International Organization, 2004, 58(1):103-136.
