Over the summer, MPhil student Yoonki Lee was invited to appear on a radio programme with the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), South Korea’s largest public service broadcaster. The invitation followed KBS’s interest in Lee’s academic achievements at Oxford and his recent success representing the DPIR at the Entente Cordiale Day Challenge, where he and two fellow DPIR students won first place, earning the King Edward VII Prize.
During the interview, Lee discussed his studies in International Relations at DPIR and his experiences as a member of St Antony’s College. He also reflected on representing Oxford in the inaugural Entente Cordiale University Challenge, sharing insights from the competition and offering words of encouragement to young scholars in South Korea.
“It was an honour to be featured on South Korea’s largest public broadcaster,” Lee said. “I never imagined I would appear on national radio to talk about my experiences at Oxford and DPIR. I hope my story encourages other students in South Korea to take on new challenges and pursue their goals with confidence.”
Lee described the experience of entering the KBS studio, donning the headphones, and speaking live on air as both “exciting and memorable.”
Now in the second year of his MPhil, Lee is writing his thesis on domestic political leadership and South Korea’s foreign policy towards the United States, drawing on expert and elite interviews conducted during his summer fieldwork.
Lee expressed his hope that his appearance on KBS will help raise awareness of DPIR’s academic excellence among audiences in South Korea.
