Professor Neil MacFarlane comments on the election in Georgia

Neil MacFarlane was quoted in Bloomberg Business Week (3 October) on the recent election defeat of US-backed Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, in favour of the more Moscow-friendly leader of the Georgian Dream coalition.

The Georgian public apparently voted decisively for Georgian Dream, Neil said, not only because of disillusionment with Saakashvili and his government, and not only because of the extremely damaging visual evidence of prison abuse, but because of Georgian Dreams promise that immediate economic and social problems will be addressed.
