Professor Neil MacFarlane discusses future prospects for Central Asia at OSCE Academy in Bishkek

Neil MacFarlane gave a plenary lecture on major strategic developments in wider Europe, 1990-2010 at an OSCE seminar in Bishkek on 10 October. The proceedings of the seminar will be distributed at the OSCE Summit in Almaty in December.


The seminar marked the twentieth anniversary of the OSCE Charter of Paris, and nearly two decades of independence of the Central Asian states. The participants discussed political and strategic changes in Central Asia over the last 20 years, perspectives on Kyrgyzstan in light of recent tragic events and the 10 October parliamentary elections, and the regional implications of the situation in Afghanistan.
