Professor Richard Caplan discusses state building challenges in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Richard Caplan was interviewed by Balkan independent news group Balkanalysis.com (13 February) for an article entitled State Building Challenges in Bosnia and Herzegovina.


Richard pointed out that whilst no one would argue that Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has achieved juridical statehood, the lack of a sense of common nationhood has made state building more difficult.

If you look at many effective states around the world, there is a sense of nationhood among these states, and that I think contributes to their effective functioning and gives them cohesion at least, which is clearly lacking in the case of BiH.
