Professor Rosemary Foot discusses Chinas impact on international relations

Date

On 6th December, Rosemary Foot gave a keynote lecture at the University of Sydney entitled The Disruption of Chinas Resurgence: Reflections from an International Relations Perspective.

In it she explored what the understanding of Chinas resurgence exposes about the discipline of International Relations, concluding that a case is to be made for the value of establishing firmer links between those scholarly communities who work on domestic China and those who work on the IR of China.

She was also interviewed by ABC Australia on the same topic on the same day, and you can click here to read an extract from that interview. Talking about the relationship between China and the United States, she says, There has been cooperation in the United Nations Security Council over the years in different kind of issues, so we shouldnt assume that they dont find coincidences of interest that bring them together. But if you think about it in sort of broad, generalised terms, then its almost a clich to say this, but there are high levels of distrust on both sides.
