Warm wishes to all our students leaving DPIR this summer - stay connected

As Trinity Term has now drawn to a close, we wish all of our leavers all the best for their future endeavours and invite you to keep in touch!

We would love to hear all of your updates and celebrate all your achievements so please do stay connected with us by using MyOxford, a new and more streamlined platform for alumni.

We cast the spotlight on one of ours leavers and celebrate Meng-Ping Hsu, who has completed a MSc in Politics Research (Comparative Government).

Meng-Ping’s interests are at the intersection of the politics of identity, conflict analysis, peace, and development.

Her current dissertation project explores the impact of political violence on social mobility in Mexico, focusing on two dimensions: the effects of electoral violence on access to high-quality employment, and policymaking related to social development.

Meng-Ping plans to pursue a DPhil  to continue building bridges between academia and policymaking. Ultimately, she hopes to generate evidence that identifies ethical, realistic, and sustainable solutions to current global challenges:

A memory I’ll always keep from my time at DPIR is:

The unique intellectual curiosity and avidness to understand, discuss and engage with the field. I will always remember my professors’ encouragement to rethink current boundaries, models and methods and their infinite passion to find more accurate and ethical ways to address challenging topics.

And what's your advice to future DPIR students?:

  • “One thing I wish I knew was…": Time passes by faster than you think! There is so much happening, all the time. I wish I had planned and done more from the start!
  • “Say yes to…”: All the talks, seminars and conferences, both within and beyond your topic! You will find inspiration in the most unexpected discussions.
  • “Make the most of…”:  The libraries! The unlimited access to the multiple resources available and the experience of studying in such beautiful and sublime spaces is a unique privilege.
