BA Mid-Career Fellowship

The British Academy is looking particularly to support mid-career scholars with these fellowships and their aim is to allow successful applicants to obtain freed up time from teaching and administrative commitments. The time bought by the scheme should be devoted to the completion of a major piece of research, and the Academy will also look for evidence of a clear commitment to a strategy of public engagement with, and communication of, the results of the research during the period of the Fellowship.

Awards can be held between a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 12 months. Small-scale research expenses of up to £10,000 may also be requested.

The scheme is intended primarily to provide opportunities for researchers who have already made an outstanding contribution to their field and who would usually be within no more than 15 years of their doctorate.
