This is a relatively modest (£500), but potentially very valuable, funding opportunity for fixed-term researchers who are currently employed by DPIR.

Funding can be requested for any legitimate purpose identified by the applicant that addresses a clearly identified need. Support could include, but is not limited to:

  • travel and conference registration (priority will be given to candidates who will be presenting rather than only attending)
  • training and courses
  • data purchase
  • professional services
  • short-term research assistance
  • workshop organisation.

Awards will normally be up to a maximum of £500.

Please allow a minimum of 2 months between the deadline (26 June 2024) and the beginning of the activity (i.e. your activity could start from 26th August 2024), in order for funds to be processed.

Please find below the scheme guidance, and do not hesitate to email the divisional contact Alexandru Martalogu if you have any questions.

DPIR deadline: Wednesday 19 June (please submit the application to us on IRAMS by this date). Please also email the Research Facilitation Team  ASAP for a light-touch informal discussion of your application.

Funder deadline: Wednesday 26 June 2024, 4pm, via IRAMS.

Calls for this fund are run twice a year; the next call is likely to be in December 2024 / January 2025.

Awards are normally valid for six months. Applicants may apply for funding over a longer period or apply for an extension if the project is delayed (via an email to your divisional contact), but if such a request is not made any unspent funds will be reclaimed automatically at the end of the award period.

Please note that applicants who were successful in round 3 are not eligible for this round, as per the guidelines below.

Unfortunately students are not eligible to apply for this scheme.
