Are you ready to apply for external funding for a transformative, disruptive, truly interdisciplinary research project?
UKRI are looking for research ideas that transcend, combine or significantly span disciplines that are not routinely funded through existing UKRI "responsive mode" schemes. Awards will be potentially transformative for the participating disciplines or lead to the creation of new disciplines. This scheme will power innovative conceptual thinking and research, and novel methodological approaches. The project must truly integrate - it shouldn't be siloed into work packages from different disciplines, or have "bolted on" disciplines.
You can ask for up to £1.2m, for up to two years. As usual with UKRI responsive mode, money can be spent on buyout, postdocs, travel, surveys etc.
University of Oxford internal deadline for Expressions of Interest (via IRAMS): noon on Monday 16 September 2024. (Oxford can submit a maximum of 20 applications to the scheme).
Funder deadline: Tuesday 19 November 2024.
UKRI is running two identical webinars on Thursday 5 September 2024 (10-11.30am) and Wednesday 11 September 2024 (2-3.30pm), to explain the scope of the call and what UKRI is looking for in applications.
There is already some very helpful information on UKRI's website, including a video explaining what they are looking for and what they mean by interdisciplinary research in the context of this scheme. Please read the funder's guidelines carefully. UKRI have also published some generalised feedback on the previous round of this scheme, which is useful reading.
Please email the Research Facilitation Team as soon as possible for guidance and support. To be successful this grant application requires intensive work with your collaborators, so please allow enough time for this.
