Antonio Piraino is in the final year of the MPhil in European Politics and Society. He is a member of St Antony’s College and a Dahrendorf Scholar at the European Studies Centre. His research focuses on the EU's Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), European strategic autonomy, and European integration, particularly in the defence and security sectors. He is currently completing a thesis examining the European Union’s pursuit of strategic autonomy in the context of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and the two Trump presidencies.

Prior to commencing his studies at the University of Oxford, he graduated in Scienze Politiche, Sociali e Internazionali (Political, Social and International Sciences) at the University of Bologna, Italy. His bachelor's thesis in European Union Law focused on the Conference on the Future of Europe (2021-2022) and a selection of its proposals concerning EU institutions.

Additionally, he has been actively involved in student leadership, serving as Chairman and Vice President for Welfare Affairs of St Antony’s College GCR. He is currently a Global Politics Editor at the Oxford Political Review.
