Pablo Zambrano Ramirez

I started my DPhil in Political Theory in 2017. My research project addresses the normative implications of outer space exploration, specifically the implications of the colonisation of other celestial bodies and the exploitation of ultra terrestrial natural resources. I am an associate researcher at Academia Nacional de Estudios Políticos y Estratégicos (ANEPE), Chile.

From 2015 to 2017, I was a student of the PhD in Political Science at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where I got a Master in Political Science before transferring to Oxford. Before that, I studied a Master by Research in Political Science at The University of Melbourne. My thesis studied the impact of water scarcity in the regional security complex of Chile, addressing both the human security and state security aspects.

In Chile I studied journalism, at Finis Terrae University, and worked freelance for different local newspapers. For a few years I combined journalism with guiding outdoors expeditions in Patagonia, in Torres del Paine National Park. 

Teaching

My specialism, interests and experience include:

• Territorial Rights Theories, with particular reference to its environmental aspects and the international politics of migration. The role of needs in normative theories.
• Theory of International Relations and Security Studies, specifically hydropolitical security, environmental security, and the the role of identity in security relations.
• While a PhD student at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile I was tutor for the subjects of Environmental Justice, Public Ethics, and Theory of International Relations. Additionally, I was research assistant for Alfonso Donoso, Director of the Political Science Institute, in a project on migration and brain drain.
