Stammering out something, I knew not what, I rolled away from him against the wall, and then conjured him, whoever or whatever he might be, to keep quiet, and let me get up and light the lamp again. But his guttural responses satisfied me at once that he but ill comprehended my meaning.


The speaker of this talk is Nbyen Dan Hkung Awng, the 2013 Charles Wallace Trust Visiting Research Fellow at CIS, Department of Politics and International Relations. He is the Director of the Humanity Institute, which promotes human rights and inclusive political change in Kachin and the Northern Shan States in Myanmar. He is originally from the Kachin State and has been involved in peace building as well as educational projects in Myanmar.

He was introduced by Dr Matthew J Walton, Aung San Suu Kyi Senior Research Fellow in Modern Burmese Studies St Antonys College University of Oxford.
