Applications open for two new Oxford Masters Programmes tackling Global Challenges and the Governance of AI
Oxford's Department of Politics and International Relations (DPIR) has opened applications for two new master's programmes addressing some of the most significant political and technological challenges facing society today.
Launching in October 2027, the MSc in Politics of Global Challenges and MSc in Law, Governance and AI combine interdisciplinary academic study with a strong focus on real-world challenges and career-relevant skills.
Tackling global challenges
The MSc in Politics of Global Challenges explores major political issues including climate change, inequality, conflict, insecurity and populism.
Drawing on DPIR's strengths in Comparative Government, International Relations and Political Theory, the one-year programme combines a core interdisciplinary course, specialist options and a dissertation. It is designed for students interested in careers including public policy, international organisations, NGOs, consultancy and the media, as well as further academic study.

Shaping the future governance of AI
Developed with Oxford's Faculty of Law, the MSc in Law, Governance and AI examines how artificial intelligence can be developed and governed responsibly for the public good.
Co-directed by DPIR Professor Ben Ansell and Professor Rebecca Williams, the 12-month programme brings together politics, governance, law and regulation with practical computational learning.
Professor Ben Ansell said:
"AI raises fundamental questions about how societies make decisions, how institutions respond to change, and how democratic systems can remain accountable in the face of new technological power."
