I am a DPhil in Politics (Political Theory) student at Magdalen College, prior to which I studied for the MPhil in Political Theory at St. Anne's College. I previously completed my BA in Political Science, with a minor in Law & Society, at the University of British Columbia with high distinction. My MPhil thesis, titled "Beyond the Trap of Cultural Identity: Democratic Pluralism and a Saidian Politics of Contrapuntality", explored how cultural identity shapes democratic subjectivity, arguing for a relational and historically grounded understanding of pluralism inspired by Edward Said’s concepts of exile and contrapuntality.
My current research further takes a decolonial and intercultural approach to democratic subjectivity through a comparative study of Iranian, Western, and anti-imperial political thought. I examine how democratic subjectivity is negotiated both within unique localities and across a broader global context, and how it is constituted through the complex histories of imperial expansion, cultural interrelation, and local resistance.
