DPIR launches new Future Global Strategists Summer School for 16-18 year-olds

The Department of Politics and International Relations is proud to launch a groundbreaking new summer programme that will equip the next generation of leaders with the tools to understand how politics, economics, and technology are reshaping the world.
The Future Global Strategists Summer School, delivered in partnership with the Department of Economics and Oxford Saïd Business School, is a two-week residential programme designed for academically ambitious students aged between 16-18 years taking place next August.
The programme offers a rare opportunity to explore one of the defining questions of our age: who holds power in the world, how is it exercised, and where will it lie next?
Bringing together Oxford expertise in economics, geopolitics and technological innovation, the programme will examine how states, businesses and international organisations navigate an increasingly interconnected and competitive global landscape.
Led by Professor Lucas Kello, Professor of Technology and Geopolitics at DPIR, and Professor Banu Demir Pakel from the Department of Economics, the programme explores how states, businesses and international organisations navigate growing geopolitical competition, technological disruption, and economic change.
Students will examine topics including global power transitions, trade and economic statecraft, artificial intelligence, cyber power, semiconductor competition, energy security, and the role of technology in shaping international order.

“The most important challenges facing governments today emerge at the intersection of politics, economics and technological disruption. This programme equips students to analyse how competition over technologies, markets and critical resources affects power dynamics—and how governments’ choices can strengthen national security, generate prosperity or deepen international rivalry."
By combining insights from three of Oxford's leading academic communities, the programme gives students an opportunity to engage with the ideas, debates and analytical approaches used by policymakers, economists, business leaders, and international institutions.
The Future Global Strategists Summer School will take place in early August 2027.
