DPIR welcomes Practitioner Associate Stephen Scott

Date

The Department of Politics & International Relations (DPIR) is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephen Scott, Founder and CEO of Starling Trust Sciences, LLC, as a Practitioner Associate. At the same time, he has joined the International Advisory Board of the newly launched Centre for Advanced Social Science Methods (CASSM).

Stephen brings significant expertise in computational social science, investigative risk intelligence, and governance-tech innovation — drawn from his leadership of Starling’s predictive behavioural analytics work across corporate boards, regulators and governments.

His role in CASSM will help steer the Centre’s focus on advanced methods — including machine learning, large-language models and experimental design — with direct relevance for policy and organisational leadership.

David Doyle, Head of DPIR, commented:

“Stephen brings a wealth of expertise and experience… we are excited to work with him to develop CASSM into a cutting-edge research centre that speaks to both academia and industry.”

Ben Ansell, Director or CASSM commented:

"The Centre for Advanced Social Science Methods is delighted to announce that Stephen Scott has joined the Centre's International Advisory Board and has joined DPIR as a Practitioner Associate. Stephen brings a wealth of knowledge about regulation, finance, and artificial intelligence to CASSM, along with a long history of engagement with the academic sector"

DPIR and CASSM look forward to harnessing this new partnership to deepen engagement with emerging risks, governance innovation and the changing role of AI in politics and international relations.
