Memorial of DPIR's Professor Christopher Hood (1947-2025)

A memorial service in memory of former DPIR Emeritus Professor of Government and Fellow of All Souls College Christopher Hood is set to take place later this month.

Christopher joined DPIR in 2001 as Gladstone Professor of Government and Fellow of All Souls College and sadly passed away at the start of the year.

His memorial service will take place at 2.30pm on Saturday, 17 May at Oxford’s All Souls College.  

Ruth Dixon (BSG, Oxford), Paul Johnson (Institute for Fiscal Studies), Desmond King (DPIR, Oxford) and Martin Lodge (LSE) will share memories and perspectives on Christopher’s work and career. Tea will be served afterwards.

Prior to DPIR, Christopher held chairs at the University of Sydney and the London School of Economics as well as other posts in the UK and around the world. Among his awards and honours, Christopher was elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 1996, appointed CBE in 2011, and received the John Gaus Award for his lifetime achievements from the American Political Science Association in 2021.

Anyone wishing to attend Christopher’s memorial service should register online before 12pm on Friday, 16 May.
