DPIR’s Professor of European Politics, Tarik Abou-Chadi and a team of European researchers have published a wide body of research on the politics of housing.
Research by the Progressive Politics Research Network (PPRNet) suggests dramatic rises in the cost of housing over recent years have eroded support for centre-left parties – once the champions of affordable housing – and fuelled anti-establishment sentiment.
Professor Abou-Chadi co-founded the Network that makes research into the problems and challenges of contemporary politics accessible to political practitioners and the broader public. The aim is to specialise in questions of accountability and representation; including the ways in which mass publics respond to policy outcomes and other political developments.
He says this new wave of research means more evidence is available and accessible to decision-makers:
"Housing costs have become a huge concern for citizens across Europe. With our research briefs we want to contribute to an evidence-based debate on how the politics of housing could look different."
